When the office is closed

After-Hours Care

What to do if your child gets sick when the office is closed, including evenings, Fridays, Sundays and holidays.

Call 911 for an emergency

Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away if your child:

  • is struggling to breathe, or their lips or face look blue
  • is unresponsive, very hard to wake, or has a seizure
  • has a serious injury or heavy bleeding
  • may have swallowed something poisonous and is having symptoms

Trust your instincts: if you think it's an emergency, call 911.

This page is general information based on guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) (AAP: When your child needs emergency medical services, AAP: Is it a medical emergency?). Medical reviewer: Dr. Irina Ilyayeva, MD (reviewed periodically). It isn't medical advice. Call us at (917) 832-6562 with questions about your child.

Calling after hours

You can call (917) 832-6562 any time. Our automated phone assistant answers every call, day and night, in English or Spanish. It can book, check, change or cancel an appointment and give our hours and address. It can also take a message, which goes to the office staff; messages left after hours are handled when the office opens. The assistant can't give medical advice. If you think your child has an emergency, don't leave a message: call 911.

Possible poisoning

Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 (free, 24 hours a day). If your child is having trouble breathing, collapses or has a seizure, call 911.

When the office opens

For problems that can wait, call when we open. Our hours: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10:00 AM–6:00 PM; Tuesday 9:00 AM–1:00 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM–3:30 PM. Closed Friday and Sunday. Read about sick visits.
